Twilight Sparkle has been given two tickets to the Grand Galloping Gala, but who will she take? You've heard this story before, but this one involves ponies and stuff.

Plot Synopsis

 "I've got a golden ticket~"
After a long morning of harvesting apples with Applejack, Twilight Sparkle and Spike are ready to feed her groaning stomachs and relax. The three of them are heading back to Sweet Apple Acres to drop off their loads when Spike receives a message from Princess Celestia.  The message is a formal invitation to The Grand Galloping Gala: a high-class, and widely respected party being held at Canterlot. The letter comes with two tickets: one for her and one for a special guest.

Immediately, Applejack asks to go to the gala with Twilight. Being able to go would allow her to sell her apples to the guests at Canterlot and use the money earned to fix up Sweet Apple Acres. But then Rainbow Dash, who was eavesdropping from a nearby tree, requests that Twilight takes her instead. She points out that her idols, the Wonderbolts, perform at the gala every year and that this could be her big chance to audition for the troupe. Always being the mediator Twilight hears both of their arguments to prevent a confrontation between the two girls. However, both of their arguments are equally valid, so she offers to think about her decision while she has lunch back in Ponyville.

In town, Twilight runs into (or rather, collides with) Pinkie Pie, who notices her tickets. Thinking that Twilight was bringing the tickets to her, Pinkie Pie excitedly breaks into a song about all the fun she would have at the gala. But then Rarity then shows up on the scene and notices the tickets;  shocked to hear Pinkie Pie's claim that Twilight was going to take her. Rarity, who makes dresses for the gala every year, believes Twilight should take her instead so she could stun the partygoers with her outfit and begin a romance with Prince Blueblood: Princess Celestia's bachelor nephew. Now having two more girls after the ticket, Twilight lets the girls know that she still hasn't decided on who to spare ticket to.

But then Fluttershy finds out about Twilight's tickets. She politely requests that she goes so she could enjoy the gardens at the actual event. But then Rainbow Dash, who had followed Twilight into town, again demands that she get the spare ticket. Applejack, who had followed Rainbow Dash there, also demands this. Suddenly, Twilight now has to decide between all five of her friends on who to give the ticket to. She tells the girls that she cannot decide on which one of them to take and that their arguing, not to mention her empty stomach, is not helping. Shooing them away, Twilight and Spike make their way to a restaurant so she could contemplate on what to do. She worries that no matter what she does, she will ultimately disappoint most of her friends.

All of a sudden, a rainstorm begins to pour over the eating area, except for where Twilight and Spike are sitting. Looking up, she is again greeted by Rainbow Dash, who has opened up a hole in the rainclouds just for her. Twilight knows that she is simply trying to butter her up with extra favors, and shoos her away. The rest of the girls also try doing extra favors: Rarity gives Twilight and Spike a makeover, Applejack offers a cart full of baked goods, and even Fluttershy is found cleaning up the library. Still at the library, Pinkie Pie, who unsubtly sings a song for her about getting the ticket, ends up telling most of the townsfolk about Twilight's ticket: who then chase her and Spike through town while offering their own favors.

It's no fun forcing favors. Kinda creepy too.

Cornered in an alley, Twilight teleports the both of them back to the library and then lock all the doors and windows. However, the rest of the gang are waiting for her by the one open window. Distraught, Twilight tells them that she cannot decide on who to take because she's worried about their feelings, as well as stressed from their attempts to win her over. Applejack, feeling bad about the hurt she had brought, walks over to Twilight and lets her know that she's no longer interested in the ticket. The rest of the girls also withdraw from getting the ticket for the same reason.

At ease, Twilight has Spike take a letter. In the letter, she formally turns down the Princess' tickets to the gala; to the shock of the other girls. She tells her that while friendship is about sharing one's blessings, it can make your friends feel awful if there's not enough to go around. Immediately, Celestia replies with a letter than includes five tickets, with an additional one for Spike later on. Now all being able to go, the girls happily treat Twilight to a long needed meal.
