THE Screened Review by Alex Navarro
As fan service, Breaking Dawn: Part 1 ably serves fans. But for those forcibly dragged to the theater along with those fans, only the absurd melodrama and psychedelic body horror will save your sanity. |

The film opens with Jacob Black furiously storming out of his house in frustrating, as we see that he has received an invitation to the marriage between Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. Billy Black attempts to reach his son, to no avail. Renee & Phil Dwyer, as well as Charlie Swan receive their invitations as well, as their reactions range from excitement (the former) and dread (the latter).
At the Cullens' house on the eve of the wedding, Bella attempts to try on new shoes to match her wedding gown, as instructed by Alice Cullen, the de facto maid of honor. The other Cullens have decided to decorate their house and backyard for the wedding and the reception. Bella returns home at Charlie's house to pack up her things and stay over for the night. As she reminisces over the dreamcatcher that Jacob gave to her months prior, Edward appears at the window. He assures her that she needn't change for him, but she insists that she wants to go through with the wedding. Edward wants to share some personal information with Bella before the wedding. Edward, after becoming a vampire, fed on human blood for a number of years. He assures Bella that he only attacked criminals who he considered were as "monstrous" as he was. Bella insists that Edward is still a good person, though Edward can't seem to agree. Just then, Emmett & Jasper arrive, urging Edward to come along for his "bachelor" party. As Bella sleeps, she has a nightmare about her wedding party being decimated by vampires, specifically herself and Edward. The dream ends with Bella & Edward stained in blood, looking at the corpses littered at the reception.
