A reality singing competition featuring Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, and Adam Levine as coaches competing to find "The Voice". Hosted by Carson Daly with backstage/social networking correspondent Alison Haislip.
The Voice is a unique singing competition in which the four professional singers serve as coaches and assemble teams of eight contestants. From these teams, they compete until one of the coaches ends up with the last remaining singer, taking credit for having discovered "The Voice."
The teams are assembled during a "blind audition." The four coaches have their backs to the stage while the contestant sings. Based on voice alone, the coach may hit their button to turn around and see the contestant. If only one coach turns around, the contestant joins their team. If more than one turns, the coaches must compete to convince the contestant to join their team.
Once the teams are formed, there is a battle round. Two members of the same team go head-to-head performing the same song while sharing the stage. Then their coach must decide which of the two is eliminated. This continues until the teams are cut down from eight to four.
The next round are the live shows, in which the viewers cast their votes on who should win. This continues until there is only one contestant left, who is crowned "The Voice." Their coach is given bragging rights for having discovered the singer and helping guide them through the competition. The winner also receives a recording contract with Universal Republic.
