@NiceMarmot: I know I'm in the minority about The Mist. It's 7.4 on IMDB which is relatively high, but god damn I loathed that movie. So did my closest friend whose opinion I value the most (besides mine), so there it is!

I'm a huge fan of the comics and have been entertained weekly by the show (getting to see all of my fav characters on the small screen), but I can imagine that I'd be slightly unimpressed if I hadn't affiliated myself with the series beforehand.  There was so much hype going into the series especially with the names tied to production and AMC's support - you would expect to get a top quality program.

The only caveat I've had is the lack of compelling writing outside of Darabont and Mazzara's contributions.  The change in write staff is a smart move by Darabont - a good director needs to trust their instincts and make tough decisions when need be.  It's also comforting to know that AMC supported this choice; it really shows their faith in the man and the continued success of the series.  This decision will strengthen the series. Can't wait for the finale (fingers crossed they include some essential plot points!)

Ok, i'm from England, hands up off the bat.
This is the way shows should be written, the writers of the pilot write the whole series, that is why we only have normally 6 eps to a series here in the UK.
Normally every series a 6 ep run is written by the same people for all those 6 eps.
There was always going to be casualty's With, Kirkman, and Darabont at the helm.

Kind of shocking to hear something like that, but I'll also bet that it has to do with budgetary concerns.  I mean, the show obviously can't be too cheap to produce, so if they can get rid of the writing staff and rely on freelancers that might work for far cheaper, it can help.

The only downside would be a lack of communication at some point that could somehow lead to a poorer quality in writing.

We'll see, but I'm thinking this is a good idea.

I have faith in Darabont's hand to guide the show to the places it needs to go.

I'm not sure what to think about this.  I hope the writing stays solid for the most part.  On a side note, I wonder if it was Darabont's or Kirkman's decision to have the whole CDC thing.  It's weirding me out but I guess we'll have to see where it goes.

You know, from what we know about Darabont, he would probably be happy to write the whole show himself... so once they decided not to bring the thing back for a friggin' year, he probably said "hey, great," and decided to do exactly that.
I just hope the writing he was unhappy with from the first season is the same cheesy stuff we were unhappy with. If we find out his proudest moment of the show thus far was that "white meat and dark meat" line, then we might be in trouble.
