Go West, young man! The West covers any dusty outback setting depicted in films of the Western genre.
Endless mesa vista, cactus-strewn plains, orange-brown hard-packed dirt, and murderous Indians hidden behind every dried up sage bush: this is the West as portrayed throughout most of cinema history. Arizona has acted as the backdrop for many Westerns and is perhaps the perfect location due to the striking images of Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and its plentiful cactus forests. While the Arizona and Southern Utah deserts are the target look for this genre many other locations have done stand-in work for them over the years, including Mexico, Spain, Australia, and North Africa.
