Blindness in One Eye does Not Harm Shooting/Stabbing Skills

If one looses sight in one eye, it destroys their depth perception and much of their visibility. Yet in movies, the most formidable villain is obviously blind in one eye, but his sword fighting, archery, and marksmanship are perfect.

English As A Galactic Standard

It's striking in science fiction movies how prevalent and oft-used English is among different ethnicities, races, and evil species.

Exploding Cars

When a car falls off a cliff or careens into a brick wall at speed it will inevitably explode into a beautiful orange blossom of fiery death. I thought they recalled the Ford Pinto years ago...

Getting Drunk is Harmless

Science says it is really, really bad for you; but movies say getting drunk is perfectly fine.

Giant Blue Light-Beam Shoots Up into Sky!!!

A giant blue light-beam shoots up into the sky!!!

God Complex

A character with a God complex has intense feelings of superiority and megalomania. They believe they are above the law, and feel they have the right to become judge and jury, "punishing" those who do not line up with their visions accordingly.

Good Guy Turns Out to be a Bad Guy

Loki in a very elaborate attempt to win his Father's (who, by the by, is motherflippin' ODIN!) respect.

Heroic Sacrifice

A Heroic Sacrifice is when a character makes a sacrifice for the benefit and well-being of others. This is quite possibly the most prevalent cliche in cinema today.

I Look Human, But I'm Not

For those characters that look human and act human and later turn out to be an alien, robot, demon, monster or something else.

Male Bonding Time = Getting Drunk

In movies, when real guys want to hang out, they have to do it by getting wasted.

No One Believes The Hero

Despite all the unbelievable things occurring, no one believes the hero and their explanation/solution.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Upon seeing or hearing something dramatic or violent, the protagonist will let loose with their best, slow-motion "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

"Oh my God!"

A character expelling his disbelief of an event he is seeing or experiencing by using the Lord's name in vain. Variations of this include: "Good God!," "Oh God," "My God," and "Oh My Lord."

Overly Dramatic Screaming

Mostly seen in cheesy horror movies when a character is cornered by the bad guy or a dead body is revealed to the character in a shocking way.

Shirtless!

Cool guys have muscles and they just love to show them off. The only way to do that is to take off their shirts and flex. These are the films that help them do that.

Slow Motion Dramatic Emphasis

The troops are rallied, the weapons are equipped, the enemy is at the gates, and you can clearly see every detail as the drama crawls slowly across the screen.

Social Networks

Will referencing a particular online phenomenon date your work in years to come? Of course it will, but it just might seem relevant at the time of release.

The Eye Scar

Nick Fury has some faint eye scars.

The Tough Chick

Sif

Troubled Parent-Child Relationship

A troublesome relationship between parents and their children which must be dealt with for the character to move on or have closure

Villain is Misunderstood

The bad guy isn't such a bad guy. He may do terrible things, but he has legitimate reasons. If only people would understand.
