Only for americans?

Just saw this movie and I really didn't enjoy it at all. I don't know why people do, maybe it is because the big fan base of the comic book in USA?

For me, living in a nordic country, this is simply ridiculous and a mockery of our ancestors and their beliefs. It is laughable, not cool. The mighty Thor and his fellow gods are made out to be some dorks in shiny armor.. amongst other things... well well.

SO, to my question, are there any non-amercians liking this movie?
If so, why?
Am I missing something here?

If I don't like it it will not be because I see it as a mockery of our ancestors. That's just being touchy. But I will check it out and see how it turns out.

All comic book movies are stupid and silly if you came in and expected and intligent and witty movie it's kind of your fault. For a comic book movie I found it to be very entertaining and no I am not armerican. If what bothered you about the movie is how it "mocks" our ancestors beliefs then why don't movies like the Mummy never bothered you?

Now im not trying to say you are wrong for not liking the movie, it had a lot of problems and I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like it but I really don't agree with the reasons you pointed out.

Wow this is not an accusation I would ever have thought would be levelled at Thor!

why did we enjoy it? because we loved the JMS reboot of the Thor comic and that is what the movie is based on a comic...

I don't read comics, but I really like Iron man and I like some of the X-Men movies. Hmm and come to think of it, also the batman movies and probably some other comic stuff I can't remember now. I am not trying to mock comics, because some of them are actually cool! And I can't talk for the comics I haven't read!

I went to see this move with NO expectations at all, I had not even seen the design or any trailers! Not even a box-shot! Only heard of it through podcasts and Conan o' Brien.
I like to see movies this way, I don't want any spoilers and stuff.

That is a longer version of why I didn't really like this movie. And it is  IMHO!
So I humbly ask you, what is the appeal?

I just want to understand

(I had no idea that the movie premiered later in US, I hope I'm not spoiling anything...)

If there's one thing we Americans are good at, it's offensive portrayals of cultures. For example, any time we try to show Native American anything.

Just saw this
http://www.comicvine.com/3-minute-expert-thor/112-1519/
And that seems much more appealing. Maybe it is because of the comic-book medium... It's ok to do whatever in comics.. but when transfered in to movies... I don't know...

The "Norse" Gods in Thor aren't Gods they are aliens who are God like to us wee humans.

Most people seem to be digging the movie its not even open in america yet

Nightwolf from MK is my favorite example of that.

@President_Barackbar: Yeah, that's what I was thinking, too. Excellent bastardization of an near-extinct culture.

I'm from Norway, and I loved it.
Then again, I understand that the "Norse Gods" in Marvel isn't actually Gods. They explain that in the movie as well.
Besides, suddenly adding magic to the "Marvel movie-verse" would be a bad thing, seeing how it's all technology. So having Åsgard as a high-tech alien society fits a lot more.

Kinda curious which Nordic country you are from by the way...

I haven't seen the movie yet but I know what you mean. I am not from a nordic country but I have so much passion for that lore. I even have thor tattooed on my left arm... Also, I'm abig fan of Thor, the comic book character, and the comic book version is NOT AT ALL like they depict him in the old poetic edas of the nordic mythology. So if you didn't like the movie maybe it is because you don't know the comic very much. Being a fan myself of both nordic mythology and the comic, I am sure I will be pleased with the movie... *Crossing Fingers.

@PenguinDust: Haha, I've actually managed to go two years without seeing it. I consider myself lucky.
