Tom Hansen

Tom Hansen, portrayed by Joseph-Gordon Levitt, is the main character of the film (500) Days of Summer. He works at a greetings card company, and has dependable friends in McKenzie and Paul, as well as a wise younger sister in Rachel.

(500) Days of Summer centers on the key events that happen within the 500 days that Summer Finn is part of Tom's life. On Day 1, Summer starts work as the new secretary where Tom works, and the pair meet for the first time. They soon start dating, but the relationship runs into trouble when it becomes clear that they want different things.

Despite working as a greetings card writer, Tom has aspirations of becoming an architect, and only after does his relationship with Summer fail and sees her happily engaged with someone else that he takes the initiative - quitting his job and applying to become an architect. On Day 500, he meets someone new, Autumn, while at an interview.
