Tom Hardy Forum

Just like many of you after seeing Inception, I instantly fell in love with Tom Hardy and his charm. I recently decided to watch more movies with him in them to see how his acting was in different roles. Before Inception, I happened to see Bronson in which Tom Hardy had starred in and was amazed that he was the same Tom Hardy that was in Inception. The other day I realized that Masterpiece Theater: Wuthering Heights was on Netflix and saw that Tom Hardy was in it and immediately decided that I needed to watch it. 
 
Despite knowing nothing of the movie before watching it, I was thoroughly impressed by his performance as well as the movie as a whole. It was interesting to see Tom Hardy in the role as Heathcliff and his dramatic switches between being a psychopathic lover to the more sympathetic lover. After the movie was done, I was glad that I had watched the movie and feel like I enjoy Tom Hardy even more than before.
 
So I was wondering if you guys ever watched a movie because a certain actor/ actress was in it and did you opinion of the actor/actress change and did you end up finding a movie that you now deem as your favourite?

Oh I'll watch any movie with Daniel Day-Lewis on it.
 
Even Nine I have intentions of watching sometime because I just love to see that man work.

Simon Pegg and Seth Rogen... I know... seemingly shallow picks, but God I love their stuff. In a more serious sense, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Matt Damon, and Will Smith.
 
...Kieran Culkin is pretty cool, too. I tracked down a copy of Igby Goes Down- well worth it. Kinda like Home Alone and Rushmore mixed.

My friend feels this way about Leonardo DiCaprio. It's almost as if he thinks that Leo is some kind of otherworldly deity.

Certain actors will grab my attention, but the general plot/idea of the film has to be something that attracts me before I'll actually see it. When I see Leonardo DiCaprio/Edward Norton/Matt Damon/Modern Bill Murray, I definitely heed the films. If, upon further inspection, the film looks like something I'd be interested in, I'll definitely give it a go. 

I used to do that a few years ago when my favorite modern actors were Brendan Fraser and Antonio Banderas (They're in good movies too!  They can act, I swear!).  You can probably guess how long that lasted...
 
A similar fail happened when I watched Sylvia Scarlett.  Bringing Up Baby, Holiday and Philadelphia Story were great, and a cross-dressing Katharine Hepburn with a Cockney accented Cary Grant sounds awesome.  It's not awesome.

@vietthreat: i thought that too, as well as with the rest of the amazing cast, but my first viewing was a bit weird. I think I was just offput by the strange Christian denouncements here and there in the film, but after some research and analyzing and discussion, I see that aspect in a new light, and I think I'm gonna give it another chance- hopefully I'll like it more!

I've said it many times before, but it's still true: Kate Beckinsale and Michael Sheen. They've both done some stinkers, but they're both usually very solid despite the overall quality of the film. 
As for films I've come to like - I was unlikely to have watched Nothing But the Truth and The Special Relationship had it not been for their involvement. On reflection, I'm glad I saw them - they're both really great films.

I'll see pretty much anything with Matt Damon in it (although I've missed his two most recent) and Daniel Day-Lewis is also a must see. And for some reason, ever since Michael Clayton, I have turned into a huge Tom Wilkinson fan.

what movies would help me see your previous view of Brendan Fraser and Antonio Bandaras?

@vietthreat:   Ha.  Oh, man.  The funny thing is I still like them as actors.  I just don't see anything new they do unless it gets good reviews (which doesn't happen).
 
 It's pretty easy to suggest movies starring Antonio Banderas.  The beginning of Desperado is my favorite segment of a movie ever, and the movie as a whole is an awesome, ridiculous action flick.  His work with Almodóvar is also good.  In Tie Me Up!  Tie Me Down!  he effectively plays a psychotic man who is in love with a former porn actress, and he plays a lovable momma's boy in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.  Even though he isn't the main character, Women on the Verge is my favorite Spanish-language movie of his, but I still haven't been able to watch Matador.

Brendan Fraser is harder to explain.  The only movie that I've seen of his where I can say that both he and the movie were excellent is School Ties.  I really like his roles in The Mummy and Airheads, but I can understand not liking those movies.  His cameos in Scrubs are fantastic.  I really believe he's a good, charismatic actor; he just almost never picks good movies.

I was into Marilyn Monroe when I was in high school so I saw practically everything she was in because of her.  After that, I had obsessions for Julie Andrews, Hayley Mills and Myrna Loy so I consumed many of their movies.  These are classic movies though so my fixation usually doesn't apply to modern actors.  The one exception is John Cusack who's been among my all-time favorite actors since the mid 80's.   
 
What's really weird is when this happens quite by accident and you wind up seeing a lot of movies by a particular actor without planning to pursue that course.  Recently I noticed that I'd seen a substantial number of Gerard Butler movies even though I don't find him to be all that compelling an actor.  And yet, I've probably seen 10 of his films.
