I do look better on TV. In real life I look scruffy and pale, and I get the worst kind of recognition... I get the 'Haven't we met somewhere before?' I suggest it might be because I'm on the telly and they say, 'No, it's definitely not that. Wasn't it at so-and-so's party?'
I think Harry [Ward's character in Silent Witness] is a passionate scientist. He's a rationalist, essentially, and that's what drives him in his work.
One of the things that makes Silent Witness so successful is its variety.
It's quite hard to be in a series [Silent Witness] for a long time and not have some similarities. You're projecting a kind of extreme version of yourself in lots of different ways. I think he's probably a lot more organised than I am, he's a lot tidier than I am, he's a lot more hard-working than I am.
We don't pay as much attention as we might to the horror of what's going on [in Silent Witness] because we have such a good laugh doing it.
