Dig Deeper into The Dark Knight Rises

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

what a weird trailer. no real content. just... things.

UnsolvedParadoxon Dec. 20, 2011 at 1:24 p.m.

Looks incredible, I'm super excited to see this. Going to take the day off work and all, should be awesome.

Going to be interesting how this one is received by the general public .... I get the impression the last one did as well as it did because of Heath Ledger, not Nolan, Bale, or even Batman. Without Ledger, will folks come out in similar numbers, regardless of whether the movie is good or not?

What was with all the complaining about Bane's voice the other day? "When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die." Wasn't that hard to understand if you were even half paying attention.

Absolutely great, this trailer is proper-Nolan style in how you don't know a damn thing about what happens in the story, which I love.

Bane still looks fucking stupid

Nightfangon Dec. 20, 2011 at 2:33 p.m.

Looks great.

Nadafingaon Dec. 20, 2011 at 2:38 p.m.

I was worried Anne Hathaway would be too bubbly as Selina, but she looks surprisingly menacing when she's whispering in Bruce's ear. I'm sold.

The trailer does seem a little listless, but honestly, I should probably just go dark (pun intended) on the movie from here on out. I mean, I'm there opening day regardless, so why spoil anything?

Trying to guess the plot is hopeless, but I'm going to try anyway.

Wayne is in self-imposed exile. Bane is a disciple of The Joker, who Batman defeated. Bane has somehow figured out that Wayne is Batman. Bane makes a grand gesture, blowing up Gotham stadium, as a way of flushing Batman out. The "Occupy" plot thread is a way to ruin Wayne financially, and in turn Batman's gadget money. Selina is just there to take advantage of the chaos, while GCPD is distracted. Bane defeats an unprepared Batman, throws him in prison, Wayne escapes, regroups, "Rises", and Bat Punches his fist down Bane's throat.

The End?

It certainly seems to suggest that our recent economical woes will be part of the plot, but how Bane fits into all of it is the real question.

This is looking nice. Definitively a good movie. A good Batman movie, I'm not so sure..

(then again, I love the previous Nolan-esque Batmans as movies, but as great as the Joker was, the Batman part was always sorta...I dunno....wrong to me..)

This Bane is definitively looking like a great character (like the villains in the past movies), but his voice though...

GunsAreDrawnon Dec. 21, 2011 at 2:41 a.m.

I still have a bad feeling that this movie wont be good.

Onion Dec. 21, 2011 at 8:14 a.m.

So what's the bet on JGL being Robin/Nightwing? Because I am totally willing to say that. Why else would Nolan keep his identity so secret? I doubt he'd be another villain, with Selina and Bane already being in there, so I can only guess he'd be another vigilante. CALLING IT.

I'm not sure at what point in time a trailer that teased elements of the film for intrigue without giving away the complete plot of the movie became a bad thing to people.

VioletEyedDragonon Dec. 21, 2011 at 9:01 a.m.

okay, i know a lot of people are saying this, but YOU CANT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING BANE IS SAYING. its bad enough with Christian Bale's somewhat incomprehensible bat-voice, but now this! first off, it was a bad idea casting Tom Hardy. I know he is pals with Nolan but Bane in the comics is way younger and he is latino. now, in addition to having a whitewashed and unfaithful character, we have to deal with Hardy trying to hide his Brittish accent. add in that mask and nothing he says makes sense. i dont mean to be racist but i am so sick of movies casting people with accents for American roles. either change it so the character is British or hire someone with the right accent, because nearly every blockbuster movie (IMMORTALS, I AM NUMBER FOUR, THE TWILIGHT SAGA) needs subtitles because the actors are mumbling to hide the fact their voice doesnt fit the character. or you know what, if it is darn important to have british actors than just have someone else dub over the dialogue. anything is better than this.
