Trailer 3: The Hunger Games

After reading these books, I'm curious as to how they're going to faithfully adapt the gorier portions into a PG-13 movie, but I guess we'll find out in March. They're certainly not showing much in these trailers.

The main girl seems to be a better actress just in the trailer than the entire cast of twilight movies combined.

They seem to be changing stuff surrounding the mockingjay pin for some reason. In the trailer, they're showing katniss give it to prim (and presumably Prim gives it back to katniss after the reaping), where in the books Katniss got the Pin from Madge.

And then just before the games begin Cinna is pinning the Pin to Katniss and saying "shhh", like he's not supposed to be doing it. But it was her distract token and approved by the game makers in the books.

The first book was okay at best, but the second is dreadfully dull, at least at the start. I'm curious if the pacing will be fixed in the movies.

It seems like a not as good, or at least a tamer version of Battle Royale to me. I haven't read the books though, is it significantly different or can I just buy the blu-ray of BR next month?

ulongon Feb. 3, 2012 at 5:55 p.m.

@masternater27: It's the same as battle royale as far as every war movie is the same as other war movies. The base concept of children forced to fight each other is the same, but it's got completely different tone, story, and thematic elements.

@ulong: For your first point, Madge isn't even in the movie.

ulongon Feb. 3, 2012 at 6:12 p.m.

@bwheeeler: I kind of assumed the character had been cut when I noticed that it wasn't going to be her giving the pin to Katniss.

There are some changes to the story but as long as the changes are not extraordinary obvious then I am okay with it.

vinsanityv22on Feb. 3, 2012 at 6:55 p.m.

I certainly hope this does Twilight-esque business considering the hype machine has been calling it "the next Twilight" for a year now. And just think - wouldn't it be nice if a GOOD movie pulled in that kinda money? :)

I will say this though; the cast of Battle Royale would fuck these kids up if they got into a fight over whose "a bunch of kids on an island killing each other" movie is better

Almost done with the first book right now and I'm super excited for the movie. It seems like, at least from the trailers, that they're going to stay pretty faithful to the story. I just hope they don't push the love triangle too much to get the Twilight crowd; it's really not a huge part of the books.

I am down for seeing this but man I need more Blue Stanley Tucci in my life

direspoonon Feb. 3, 2012 at 9:11 p.m.

I can understand cutting Madge since I don't remember her character doing anything at all ever besides giving Katniss the pin. As for Cinna's conspiratorial shushing, I can see that being in there to foreshadow the plot of the latter books a bit more than the novel does. Katniss is very ignorant of a lot of things in the first book (which is told entirely from her perspective), which might not translate well for an audience.

Also where's the nerd rage over the three-fingered salute being done with the right hand instead of the left? MY IMMERSION.

Very excited for this since I love the first book.

Ghostieton Feb. 4, 2012 at 2:03 a.m.

PG-13? Ehhh. Mockingjay is going to be a hard watch, because that book gets almost disgustingly brutal near the end (decapitations, a lady melting to the bone, etc). I expect a lot of slow-mo and Katniss crying in place of that.

stubeeon Feb. 4, 2012 at 3:01 a.m.

LOTR was PG13 and that had plenty of decapations, blood, dismemberment, cannibalism and oozing wounds.

Can't wait for this film!!

Christinaon Feb. 4, 2012 at 4:18 a.m.

Pretty excited to see this, especially seen as it's just been announced in IMAX. Tthis trailer just seems to be a rehash of the previous trailer, but i'm not complaining though. At least they aren't giving too much away, I always thought Warner Brothers gave way too much away of the HP movies before they came out.

To be fair Sam Worthington is a better than the entire cast of the Twilight films.

I'd put Worthington at or below Twilight level. That guy ruins movies on his own.

In the middle of the second book right now and the movie looks promising, really happy with Lawrence as Katniss

Weird that they just cut out Madge though, oh well I guess that's the sort of thing to cut out when making a book into a movie

Oh and the Capital looks awesome, like I expected it to look
