This nominee for Best Foreign Film is about...something. You can feel free to speculate, because the trailer has no intention of actually telling you.

Dig Deeper into Bullhead

The young Limburg cattle farmer Jacky Vanmarsenille is approached by an unscrupulous veterinarian to make a shady deal with a notorious West-Flemish beef trader. Hum...okay ?

It looks like it's beautifully shot. Also if I didn't know any better I would have thought it was a remake of Bronson with a more serious tone

MUBI showed it last year as part of their cooperation with the international film festival of rotterdam i think. Strange movie. It's about the conflict between Wallonia and Flanders, the belgian hormone mafia, homosexuality and masculinity and catholicism. And steaks. Bloody steaks. EDIT: Most importantly it's about memories.

Well that looks like a good time.

Ok ok ok I got it...So he is a mob hit man that has a troubled past...more specifically when he was little he got hit so hard and so many times in the balls that his body can no longer produce testosterone. So he gets testosterone from bulls and injects himself directly with it, giving him the testosterone level on a large bull. He is haunted by this because he has become dependent on it and it is affecting his relationship with those around. Also for some inexplicable reason he makes bull noises while killing people.

Edit:

I get the feeling it's one of those ruthless-goon-can't-do-it-this-time-because-they're-asking-too-much movies. I hope it is more. It looks like it could be interesting.

Now I'm hungry.

This looks crazy. Also, really "good" dumb.

jillsandwichon Feb. 8, 2012 at 9 p.m.

It certainly looks pretty. And I'm always up for a good foreign crime movie.

FriendlyMarshmellowon Feb. 9, 2012 at 12:29 a.m.

Why am I reminded of "The Lives of Others"?

kristofke_1on Feb. 9, 2012 at 4:44 a.m.

Okay, I'm from the country where the movie is made and takes place (so I've obviously already seen it) and even I find the trailer a little...confusing as to what it is about :p.

Here is a better international trailer, with a little more with more exposition:

Wow, that trailer does not make me want to watch that movie. The international trailer is way better. Thank you

Let's just that I'm mother-effing proud to see this Belgian masterpiece shine on the oscars. I'm sure it will win the foreign film oscar. BELGIUM FTW!

@KJ: OK, let me just set up a Kickstarter account and see where this goes (jk)...too bad we aren't Tim Schafer. But I am sure something good will eventually come out of that post.

Arc209on Feb. 10, 2012 at 7:04 a.m.

@kristofke_1: I appreciate the link because I want to see this movie, but with what I could suss out of the trailer was kinda crazy.
