Trailer: Game Change

HBO's look at the behind-the-scenes turmoil in the McCain/Palin 2008 campaign ought to generate some...interesting discussions, shall we say.

Seems ok

I'd rather watch a documentary than what someone thinks happened based on 2nd hand information.

Seems like a very "sorkinesque" take on the 2008 elections, I like !

Funky_Pasta_Tommyon Feb. 1, 2012 at 1:46 p.m.

As a Brit who really can't say they paid too much information on the election.... this looks ridiculous!

mbkishon Feb. 1, 2012 at 1:49 p.m.

@FinalDasa: Welcome to the Social Network. If properly written and entertaining it really shouldn't matter if the "facts" are accurate.

This doesn't look horrible, but I probably won't go out of my way to watch it.

phoenix87xon Feb. 1, 2012 at 2:12 p.m.

This is going to be one of the best comedies in years.

hrn212on Feb. 1, 2012 at 2:52 p.m.

@mbk337: True, the thing is that when I saw the Social Network I didn't know much about the story, so I didn't know which bits were factual and which weren't. I followed the 2008 elections quite closely, so there are a lot of moments in this trailer that are directly taken from news clips and there are moments that seem too crazy to be real. I think if I watched this, I'd be wondering the whole time about what bits actually happened, and what bits were artistic license.

Even the movie HBO did about the 2000 elections had bits where you were wondering whether it really happened or not. But with that, even though it was dealing with extraordinary circumstances, the people involved were more or less grounded in reality. Palin is such an extraordinary personality, I think making a movie about her that is at all realistic-seeming is nearly impossible (regardless of how much of it really happened or not).

If only Sarah Palin actually looked that hot, she'd have my vote.

Milkmanon Feb. 1, 2012 at 5:15 p.m.
Wow...

That's all about all I could muster about this...thing.

A. C'mon Ed Harris, you can do a better impersonation than that.

B. This trailer makes Palin look like a serial killer in a horror movie.

I do love me some Julianne Moore.

ArbitraryWateron Feb. 1, 2012 at 10:08 p.m.

Well, this clearly will be a factually accurate portrayal of what actually happened during the 2008 election. On the other hand, If it means I get to see Julianne Moore do some insane scenery-chewing then it will probably be worth it.

Mr_skeletonon Feb. 2, 2012 at 3:05 a.m.

This looks like a trailer for a romcom.

David Simon, creator of The Wire is fond of the phrase "God is a second rate novelist", often reality is completely absurd. Now that doesn't necessarily this will be accurate but some really strange things can happen.

As to the film itself... meh. If I made it'd be five minutes long:

Republican 1: "The Democrats have a black, we should get a woman to seem equally progressive AND we'll be able to hoover up some disaffected Hillary supporters!"

Republican 2: "Hmm, this Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska is getting mentioned in a few news pieces about potential running mates for John, she aint bad looking too, I think this could be a game changer."

Republican 1: "Sounds good, lets hire her!"

Time passes

Republican 1: "Darn it, Sarah is ignorant of many basic foreign and domestic policy issues and is largely unaware of current events and she is terrible at interviews! On top of that the tiny population of Alaska makes her seem a less credible running mate than dozens of mayors let alone several of the governors we could've chosen, her connections to fundamentalist Christians is alienating women so much we now have less female support than we did before she came onboard and her connection to Alaskan secessionist movements [yes really] is leading to questions about her patriotism. At least her spending campaign donations on designer clothes hasn't gotten out to the press yet! Oh and her policies and beliefs are so far out of step with America that even Republican voters are openly worrying about McCain dying in office and her taking over."

Republican 2: "Whoopsie! Maybe we should've done basic due diligence on her instead of rushing to try and beat Obama at his own "diversity" game."

Canned laughter

Cut to: McCain with head in hands.

Roll credits.

hrn212on Feb. 2, 2012 at 4:49 a.m.

@ReV_VAdAUL: Yeah reality can be absolutely insane, but with something this absurd it's so tough to figure out where reality ends and the movie writers begin.

Anyway, your little mini-script there is another reason I'm probably not going to see it. The basic story is so well-known already. Unless it provides some unexplored depth (or hilarious comedy) to it, then there doesn't seem to be much point.

AuthenticMon Feb. 2, 2012 at 4:56 a.m.

Ed Harris as John McCain? Fuck yes.

junglistgameron Feb. 2, 2012 at 9:03 a.m.

Everyone Sarah Palin has told about the file is dead!

Sammo21on Feb. 2, 2012 at 1:52 p.m.

yeah this won't be a 100% biased piece of crap.

romica1969on March 14, 2012 at 11:51 a.m.

Of course, any movie that doesn't have Sarah crapping rainbows is gonna piss off the Palin Drones. It looks like they're trying to portray her strengths as well as her weaknesses. In Palin's case, they're sometimes the same thing.
