I couldn't find any good pictures of Shockwave, so hey, have some more Rosie Something-Somethingly.

There's a pretty lengthy set visit report over on USA Today that sheds some new light on next year's Transformers 3, which I believe is some kind of low-budget, arthouse franchise. A few points of emphasis from the article:

  • The film will be in 3D. Last I heard they were not using 3D cameras to shoot this movie, meaning it'll be an upconversion. Michael Bay has been skeptical of that technology before, so presumably this is a studio decision.
  • Shockwave, a Decepticon that can transform into a massive laser gun, is the villain. That's cool. Big guns are cool.
  • Lots of acknowledgments that the last movie wasn't so hot, with the blame being lied at the foot of the writer's strike of 2007-2008.
  • Less "dorky comedy", e.g. no more racial caricature Autobots. (I don't believe this one for a second.)
  • The plot revolves around the space race of the 50's and 60's and how the Transformers might have been involved.

I'm all for Bay & co. making Transformers 3 an entertaining movie, but man - it'll be hard to go into it with an open mind after the crapfest that was Revenge of the Fallen. In other Transformers 3 news, there were a few set pictures which leaked out onto Flickr recently and were quickly taken down, but not before they were preserved on any number of websites, such as Screenrant

I'm as skeptical as you are, Rorie. We'll see in time... I let's just hope it's at least on par with Transformers 1.

Hopefully it goes back to being decently stupid-fun like the first Transformers, and not continue the whole mind-numbing pain and disbelief that was in every frame of Transformers 2.

Uh...Yeah I'm no sure that the Writers' Strike is an adequate excuse for that.

The writer's strike?  Really?  Didn't they realize during filming of the movie--"you know, this story kind of sucks and does not make any sense.  Perhaps we should work on it.  Nah....no movie ever reworks a script once principle filming starts!!!"

Not interested at all. Shockwave being there is cool, but I despise the look of the Transformers in these films. They all look horrible. The only one that is semi-decent is Optimus. The rest are just crap so I expect them to royally fuck up Shockwave as well. They did a number on Soundwave...Ugh.

I also agree with not believing the comment about less comedy and no racially insensitive (putting it nicely) robot. At least there is no Megan Fox, one less shit actor in the film. Now fire every other actor and make it just about the Transformers and you might get my attention. Until then Micheal Bay can kiss my ass. I'm still pissed off at Transformers 2 and I will be for a long time.

I love the first movie, I hope they learned from the 2nd one which I am still trying to forget. After I watched it in the movies and it came out on BD I actually rented it thinking "Was it really that bad? No, maby I was just not in the mood or something".... but I was right... what a bad movie.

Crossing my fingers for T3 to be more like the first!

Keep the annoying racists robots out and I'll watch it. I may skip it anyway because 3D conversion is a terrible thing.

I bet that the writer's strike was the excuse for why the dude's mom was high on pot brownies.

I bet.

I'm more excited for the game then this movie, and with excited i mean it looks alright... The first movie was alright, the second was worst, i hope the third one isn't going to be a trainwreck.

Oh fuck.
See, now I'm actually kind of worried. Michael Bay has a real big stiffy for the American military, if this thing is gonna be based on the space race... well, as a Russian, I'll just say I'm "looking forward" to the grim, dower, cold-hearted and ruthless stereotyped Russians that'll be in the film.

You want to know the trick to liking Transformers.  Don't see it on the big screen.  It hurts your ears and your brain.  Way to many moving parts to know what the hell is going on.  A smaller screen helps it.  I saw it on DVD because the I had problems with the first film.  I couldn't tell what was what some of the time.  Watching it on a T.V. made it sooooo much easier because I didn't accidently focus on some moving part on one the robots arm when I should have been focusing on something else.  It's easy to get side viewed (is that a word, it is now, side viewed).  I really liked the 2nd one.  it was fun, funny, and had whole lot of transformers.  Still waiting for a cannon on Megatrons arm, that was a let down.  Especially since he was a TANK in the sequel.  A great excuse to put a cannon on his arm.  There were concept art with him having one and I thought he would but NOOOOOOO, they let me down again.

As much as I know I will not like the movie, I'm still watching it for the CG. Damn I hate myself.

I can confirm that the Twins will be back for the third movie.  I wasn't able to get any pictures because security, but the Twin cars are near the set.  Although with new paint jobs, they are now black with racing stripes in their respective colors.
