48 percent on rotten tomatoes?!

Considering everyone's tolerance for silliness and corny dialogue was at an all-time high for Avatar (84% last time I checked), it is baffling that so many critics have dismissed Tron. I was personally much more entertained by Tron. Great visual style, passable acting at worst, fantastic at best (Bridges is having so much fun here) and a fantastic score (reminiscent of Blade Runner, just with a more positive tone). Had a great time with this movie. Why critics didn't feel the same way, no idea.

I'd say it's in the 80s

" Seriously?!  I just got back from a midnight showing of this in IMAX 3D, and I can honestly say that it was fantastic.    No, I did not see the original Tron, and no, I'm not easily dazzled by these big-budget epic pictures, but this film created such an awesome style, and the world was so unique and exciting that I just can't see how anyone could not like it.  Sure, the plot was lacking, but nobody seemed to care as much about that with Avatar, and I honestly liked this film more "
I think critics that review movies usually want plots. If the plot was a weak part then well the movie is going to be weak. I saw the movie and 48% seems generous.

" You know why the scores are so low?  It's because critics forget that not all movies need an incredibly deep plot to be enjoyable.  Take most of the old Disney adventure films.  They were great, still are great, and they don't have some deep plot to them.  This is in that same vein:  Tron Legacy is about the visuals, how it marries with the music, and watching people have an adventure that we cannot.  Personally, Tron Legacy transported me to another world in the same way that the first Tron did when I was a kid.  I enjoyed every minute of it.  Sure, there were at least two parts where things felt a bit too chatty, but whatever.  They need to explain away their stuff.  They were not anywhere close to the worst acting in the world, and they set up what I needed to know just fine. "
Maybe it's because you've forgotten that great films don't need to look good to resonate. Think about the Godfather. Is that movie entertaining today? Hell yeah. Once the whizz-bang golly gee of Tron 3D wears off will people remember the story? I'm not saying I agree or disagree with critics but if a movie can't tell a competent story then it's not much of a movie. Besides 48% is competent.

Seems about right to me.

Yeah, this seems like where it should be, which is a shame.

The first Tron had a weak story, and incredibly slow pacing, yet people still remember it today because of the state-of-the-art visuals. Tron: Legacy's visuals are about as good as it gets today, certainly up there with Avatar, which also had a horrible story. Although films don't have to look good to become popular with the critics, they don't need a great story to become popular with the general audience.

Oh well then you'll have a point when RottenTomatoes aggregates the scores of the general audience as opposed to film critics who like their movies to mean something.

The soundtrack I loved. The visuals I loved. Everything else I hated. So yeah, 48% for me seems about right.

48% is really harsh, especially when you consider how much people loved Avatar for the exact same reasons they hate Tron. I think its more of a thing where because Avatar was so popular, people were unable to say they didn't like it, whereas with Tron its pretty easy to say it was bad.

Why is everyone comparing this to Avatar I admit the story is lacking but at least it is its own movie and original unlike Avatar. and I even think the visuals beat Avatar too.
