The Hunger Games return with such a sequel twist that you can't believe writer Suzanne Collins didn't think of film when writing. Catching Fire builds up with all types of subversive messaging which is interesting but also brings into relief the limitations of the genre and film.
Cormac McCarthy’s bones and Ridley Scott's style do not make The Counselor something more than an interesting curiosity. A film that seems destined more to be remembered as that move where Cameron Diaz does that thing with the car than anything else.
Thanks to a Japanese scientist's invention of synthetic blood, vampires
have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight.
And while humans have been removed from the menu, many remain
apprehensive about these creatures "coming out of the coffin." Religious
and government around the world have chosen their sides, but in the
small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, the jury is still out.
Bill rescues Sookie
Although it has been two years since the invention of Tru Blood and the presence of vampires becoming known to mankind, Bon Temps meets its first vampire in the form of Bill Compton. Sookie Stackhouse, a local waitress, is instantly drawn to him due to her inability to hear his thoughts. She is revealed to have telepathic abilities and is constantly bombarded with the personal thoughts of the townspeople. They become romantically invovled after Bill saves her from local thugs, the Rattrays. Bill constantly tries to protect Sookie, often healing her with his blood and even killing a fellow vampire. Which leads to him having to turn an innocent girl, Jessica, as punishment.
During the season a series of murders plagues the town. Jason Stackhouse finds himself the prime suspect, as the victims are all woman he is sleeping with. He is the last one to be seen with Maudette Pickens, Dawn Green and Amy Burley before they are all strangled to death.
