Is WarGames one of the best thrillers of the 80's?

Ok, its protagonist is a middle class teenage brat.  Ok, some of the computer stuff is absolutely  ridiculous (but then again, that could be said for all movies).   Ok, it seems very dated now.

But...

Its soundtrack is class.  It's got Dabney Coleman in it.  It's got Barry Corbin in it.  It's got a computer called WOPR in it.  I mean, come on.  WOPR.

Take a breath.  Discuss.

I don't know about thrillers, but it's my favorite movie on the Cold War.

As for WarGames 2, it's thrillingly bad.

@flap_jackson:   I would describe it as a thriller.  The hero unwittingly gets drawn into a whole other world outside of his understanding and comfort zone - a world where he is faced with great peril.  There is a race against time in order to prevent major disaster.  Basically a kid can prevent the end of the world.  Actually, now that I think about it, that's not especially thrilling at all.  What am I talking about?  I should have started this topic about  The Hunt For Red October.  Now, that's a thriller.

Dated? I'd say it's stood the test of time quite well!

Not sure about best thriller of the 80's, cause I haven't seen many, but it's definitely my cold war movie.

@Mushir:   You're right.  I think it's better described as a cold war movie rather than a thriller.  However I would stand by my opinion that it has dated quite badly.  I mean, could you break into the DOD computer with a shitty modem these days?  If you know the answer to that, then don't reply.  The Feds are always watching...
