In the vein of the Arrested Development movie and the Party Down movie, and their endless array of "it will/it won't happen" rumors, we, of the Internet film nerd society, have been similarly on pins and needles about all the recent talk of a new Wet Hot American Summer movie. It's something that's been kicking around for a while now, with director David Wain even recently remarking that the film could be a prequel, set in the same summer as the original film, only now with 40-year-olds playing teenagers instead of 30-year-olds. You can bet your sweet, fridge-humping ass I'd watch that, but as with all such rumors, I, and those like me, have been reluctant to get too excited by the possibility of such a thing happening, since it seemed just as likely that it wouldn't.
But then Wet Hot co-writer and star Michael Showalter had to go and get us all hot and wet last night when, while appearing on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live, he said, "Yes, 100 percent yes. The whole gang, everyone's doing it."
Well that certainly doesn't leave much room for interpretation, does it?
It's actually not so far-fetched to think that the whole gang could be back on board, especially considering that most of the cast have actually said out loud with their mouths using words that they'd absolutely be down for another go, including Chris Meloni's heartfelt, "Oh, fuck yeah, in a heartbeat."
The only two who haven't said anything to that effect are Amy Poehler, who admittedly is quite busy with that whole Parks and Rec thing, and Bradley Cooper, whose small part as Michael Ian Black's gay lover and eventual husband, launched him into the stratosphere of movie stardom. Sure, some might point to that whole Hangover thing as being Cooper's actual launching point, but we all know the truth.
Even if Cooper for some reason doesn't return, that wouldn't put too much of a damper on the whole thing. After all, all we really want is more of Paul Rudd's unbelievably delicious smugness and Chris Meloni's sexual attraction to inanimate objects, right?
