In theaters June 21, 2013, “The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. Enos plays Gerry’s wife Karen Lane; Kertesz is his comrade in arms, Segen.” - Bloody-Disgusting.com

After months of delay, World War Z will finally be released in June 2013. From what I heard, the only things this movie will have in common with the novel is zombies and the name recognition. The novel, as some of you may know, is about a reporter who collects the individual accounts of the Zombie War. Based on this trailer, it does not look they will go this route.

Based on the trailer, I predict that most of the stories and events may be hinted or mentioned in passing, unless this is part of an early marketing campaign to introduce us to popular characters from the book, like a "Meet The Team" type deal. Or maybe release a separate short film that acts as that fake documentary I was asking for. But so far, I'm seeing this as another zombie flick with a big budget.

Y'mean 2013, boy-o?

@Paulrus: Thanks for catching that. I can't believe that I missed that.

For the most part i agree with you. The trailer looks like it takes so many elements from other zombie movies. To me, it looks like they made a prequel for I Am Legend.

I can understand why they chose to forgo using the book's story telling format. That style of storytelling would be really hard to translate onto a movie if you're trying to cram all the stories in one movie. If you do that some people would ask " what does that story have to do with the other story." It would probably be better as a series of movies where one story of the book is covered in one movie and another story in another movie. Perhaps this is what they are doing. If I had my way, I would make this into a TV anthology on HBO or AMC, where the characters would be able to develop sufficiently.

Those zombies are literally gushing through those streets. You can replace them with a torrent of water and it would still make sense until you get to the part where they try to climb the wall. By the way, I had no idea that zombies had the ability to use teamwork other than rushing at people in large numbers.

Looks fine to me. Just a crazy action zombie movie focused on bigger zombie encounters than a typical group of survivors movie.
