Here's hoping Magneto gets a moustache!
Here's hoping Magneto gets a moustache!
A couple weeks back we reported that Michael Fassbender was rumored to be in talks to play Magneto in the upcoming X-Men: First Class film, and that news has now been confirmed.  Fassbender was great in Inglourious Basterds and I can see him playing off the young Magneto very well. And anything beats the creepy CG young Xavier/Magneto from X3. ANYTHING.

Fassbender was also reportedly in talks for a lead role in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. There's no news on where he stands with that now, but according to Deadline, Sony has held screen tests for the final list of actors being considered for the role of Peter Parker, and they will be making their decision very soon.

I'm told that the candidates whose screen tests were viewed Friday are:   Jamie Bell (the Billy Elliot star who wrapped the Kevin Macdonald-directed The Eagle of the Ninth) , Star Trek’s Anton Yelchin, Kick-Ass’s Aaron Johnson, Andrew Garfield ( The Social Network), Logan Lerman ( Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief) and Alden Ehrenreich ( Tetro). Frank Dillane ( Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince) and Michael Angerano ( Lords of Dogtown) are also in the final list that the studio is working from. I'm not sure if Angarano tested. I've heard Dillane decided not to because he is likely headed to attend drama school at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Some of those names have been kicked around before, but a few appear to be new wrinkles in the blanket. Screenies, any favorites among that bunch?

If Donald Glover ain't happening, then Anton Yelchin gets my vote for the Spider-Man reboot.

He really nailed his role in the short-lived (but very awesome) Showtime series Huff.

EDIT:

"And anything beats the creepy CG young Xavier/Magneto from X3. ANYTHING."  For some reason I don't recall that.  I saw X3 only once, and that was enough.  Maybe I blanked it out it was that bad.

Regardless, no disrespect for the actors but I hope this bombs because FOX continues to put its stink on all the Marvel properties they've managed to acquire.   Please let this tank so DISNEY/MARVEL can buy the rights back.  I will continue to say it.  The same goes for SONY PICTURES and Spider-Man.

Duders, who the eff is Michael Fassbender? I live in Germany for 3 decades and never heard of him!  [googling the Google] ... what? He played in Band of Brothers?! He was in Inglorious Bastards, too? And also is making a film with freakin David Cronenberg? WTF?!

I guess, either he's that good of an actor, that he blends into his roles - De Niro style ... or, he is just a unremarkable face in the crowd - perfect as an Extra on the sets. And cheap.

I do know Rainer Werner Fassbinder, the director, though.

Plz don't let it be Aaron Johnson. I liked Kick-Ass but he's just a bit too weird.

I would love to see Michael Fassbender in a Rainer Fassbinder film.

Yelchin would be an inspired choice for Peter Parker, but they'll never pick him.  Unfortunately, they need a dude that chicks will want to go see.

I assume they scrapped the Magneto movie? Man i really wanted to see how they handled all the concentration camp stuff.

I've always hoped that Jamie Bell would keep his name as far away from that franchise as possible & stick to doing good movies.
