I just read this article

and I am so proud and happy for the wonderful, talented Star Trek and Heroes star Zachary Quinto for coming out of the closet. He has always been a supporter of gay rights and seems very genuine and likeable. I've loved his work and I am just very very glad he has mustered up the courage to reveal himself as a gay man, I hope this inspires other gay men and women to come out aswell. He made this tearful and thoughtful 'It Gets Better' video to remember the suicides that we've all surely been hearing about in the media.

Aw, good for him!

@pat4327: totally (: I'm so glad more Hollywood actors are coming out of the closet. Luke Evans (although his publicists are trying to cover it up) Neil Patrick Harris , Amber Heard, Evan Rachel Wood and more! (: it's a revolution.

Wow, that video is so heartfelt. Good on him.

Wow, I literally just finished reading Angels in America for the second time, and knowing that he played Louis at one point meant I was picturing him all the way through, weird.

Happy for him though, I think there's still an enormous unspoken stigma against gay people, maybe it's because most of my friends are 17 and 18 and still pretty childish, but I can't imagine having to tell the people i know that you were gay.

@Llewelyn: True, people assume that the LGBT community is 'accepted' because of the civil partnerships but there's still a lot of hate out there and bad stigma, but Zachary doing this is a very good step-forward. I'm so proud of him, I'm bisexual myself, and it is a tough thing to 'come out' at any age.

Good for him. I'm glad that kids who are struggling with their identity can have someone to look up to, someone closer to their age, and someone who is successful.

I'm gonna call bullshit. One actor is a "big step forward" for the LGBT community?

That kinda feels like an insult to all of the people that do real, solid work every day to make gay living a little better.

Hello rude guy. Yeah, he is a big step forward

and sorry, I don't recall bashing the people that "do real, solid work every day to make gay living a little better." what they do everyday is a huge step forward too, I think you should re-read my comment, because no where did I ever state that those people were useless, I'm talking about in this case, is an actor who people look up too.

@CherryBomb: I wasn't insulting you. I just think there's something inherently flawed in the logic that a famous person can hold so much sway over opinions. It's obviously true, and you are correct in your point, but it just feels like an insult to the people who do the work. I find it frustrating that one person coming out of the closet can do more than the hundreds of people who work toward the same goal. That's a problem with humanity as a whole, though, not necessarily with your statement.

@TheGief: So you really think Zachary Quinto doing what he does hasn't done anything? nothing big? because of what himself and other people who have influence over others do, homophobic bullying may be reduced, even if it's only a small amount, it's still a big step forward. We live in a society that idolise the rich and famous, there's nothing we can do to help that. I can't make a forum post about each of the thousands of people that have helped changed society, but credit where credit's due, and I'm giving credit to Zachary Quinto in this instance.

Good for him. It never crossed my mind that he was Gay though, I guess because Spock's romance with Uhura seemed genuinely convincing to me. Everytime an Actor, that's a big step forward for the LGBT Community. It just shows that anybody can be Gay I guess and just proves opposite to the stereotypes I guess. ( That last sentence makes no sense, I know)

@CherryBomb: Sadly, homophobic bullying will never stop in America. We're a nation of hypocrisy.

We have the freedom to say whatever we want...unless it offends someone.

We have the freedom to believe whatever religion we want...but we're one nation under God, and if we have a problem with that, we're told "tough luck".

We have the freedom to peacefully protest...and the police are given the freedom to violently beat the shit out of us for doing so.

We have the freedom to print whatever we want...until it's an opinion that people don't like, then have to write a retraction and an apology for having an opinion, popular or not.

Funny enough, no one in America has ever said that people have the right and freedom to love whoever they want. It baffles me how an entire nation, let alone the entire world, can try to define what the fuck love is. It's so fucking stupid. What does a guy loving another guy or a girl loving another girl matter to anyone else? How is that damaging anything other than someone else's "moral sensibilities"?

However, I will say that one famous person like Zachary Quinto isn't a BIG step forward. It's just ANOTHER step forward. BIG steps don't mean shit unless there are OTHER steps to continue that forward progression. Personally, I would rather see forward progression than a big step here and there, ya know?

Prejudice in general is just something I can't fucking stand. The fact that mankind was able to create something so hateful and evil is something I despise more than anything.

One day, maybe we'll live in a world where people will stop being so focused on something as stupid as hating someone because of the gender of who they love and instead focus on shit that actually matters.

Well that proves it! All the best people are gay!

Good for him! :)

It's much better for someone to come out of the closet than to just let the fact about their sexual identity eat them away as they contain it from their loved ones even further. Definitely not a feeling I'd even want. :(

Genuinely touching. I'm really, really happy for him and for what he is doing.

@jakob187: Zachary Quinto is pretty well liked, I still stand by my statement of it's a 'big step forward' it doesn't mean to say there isn't a huge distance to go until society is more understanding, but it's helping a little, which in turn, helps a lot.
