U.S. News Names Lemonade Best Overall Pet Insurer for 2026 to 2027

Lemonade has taken the top overall spot in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 to 2027 pet insurance awards, announced on August 13, 2026.

The publication researched 20 companies, surveyed more than 800 policyholders, and assembled 11,424 data points: 6,528 on satisfaction and service, and 4,896 cost quotes across breeds, ages and locations.

The winners

  • Best Overall: Lemonade
  • Best for Customer Satisfaction: Pumpkin
  • Best for Seamless Claims: Pets Best
  • Best for Deductible Options: MetLife, which offers more than 20 deductible choices including $0
  • Best for Older Pets: Spot

“Pet owners won’t have to choose between their pet and their wallet,” said Kayla Randolph of U.S. News, describing the goal of the rankings.

Why Lemonade keeps winning these

Lemonade’s pet product runs on the same app-first model as its renters and home insurance: quote in minutes, claims filed from the phone, and a share of simple claims paid automatically. Its pricing sits at the lower end of the market for young, healthy animals, which is where most policies are bought. The trade-off, as with all of Lemonade’s lines, is that complaint volumes run higher than at the older carriers, and premiums rise as the pet ages.

How to read an award like this

Awards measure the average experience. Your pet is not average. A five-year-old bulldog with a history of skin problems will be quoted very differently from a kitten, and the exclusion for pre-existing conditions is the same at every company on the list. Before you buy on the strength of a badge:

  1. Get quotes from three carriers for your specific animal.
  2. Compare the annual limit, reimbursement percentage and deductible together, not the monthly price alone.
  3. Read the waiting periods for orthopedic conditions, which can run six months or more.

Our best pet insurance guide covers the major carriers, what is excluded, and when a wellness add-on is worth it.
